Seiha
Park

Pianist and educator dedicated to long-form musical inquiry — from Bach and Granados to Chopin.

Seiha Park, pianist

Seiha Park has been orbiting the piano since the age of five — drawn to it so completely that as a child, she would often fall asleep underneath it, unwilling to leave its side. As the only musician in her family, she soon learned that music needed to coexist with life rather than consume it.

Her time at the San Francisco Conservatory shaped this perspective, where a lifelong mentor, John McCarthy, taught her the value of curiosity, balance, and thinking beyond endless hours of practice. Although her childhood dreams were seemingly fulfilled upon arriving at the New England Conservatory on full scholarship, Park realized that ambition never ceases to grow.

She continued her studies at New York University with Jeffrey Swann, where she also serves as adjunct faculty teaching piano. Her musical interests lean toward long-form exploration — from Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier and Granados' Goyescas to Chopin's four Ballades, with Beethoven's cycle of 32 piano sonatas currently underway.

Outside music, Park is a full-time home barista, part-time knitter, and occasional baker — equally addicted to coffee, yarn, and sugar.

"The most powerful thing a teacher can do is not to reshape a student, but to amplify what is already there."

At the core of my philosophy is one principle that does not change: respect. I am committed to creating a learning environment where students feel safe, valued, and never diminished. A strong teacher is defined not only by knowledge, but first by character and integrity.

I believe that teaching must be individualized. Each student has a different sound, personality, background, and way of thinking. My role is to understand who they are — musically and personally — before making any judgments. Careful observation, patience, and trust are essential.

My goal is to encourage, challenge, and support students so they can grow not only as musicians, but as individuals who feel confident expressing themselves through music. Beyond being a teacher, I hope to be a mentor: someone students can trust, rely on, and feel genuinely supported by.
